The Between Worlds Ensemble

The “Alte Oper Nights” bring together classical music, flamenco from Seville, and jazz over two evenings. The dynamic energy of the big city and overlapping sensory impressions become physically palpable in Steve Reich's rousing homage to New York. It takes you on an imaginary journey to Tokyo, Glasgow, Palermo. And the city of Istanbul – itself a melting pot of cultures – is also commemorated musically in a fascinating mix of contemporary classical music, jazz, electro and Anatolian influences. Parallel to the musical city hopping in the halls of the building, talk rounds and other events curated by the non-profit Hertie Foundation will take place in the salons. Visitors can then feel the rhythm late into the night in the “club”: our DJs will bring danceable beats to the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer.
